Senior Dog Monthly Budget
This adds three numbers: what your dog's food costs per month based on calories needed and your food's price, a monthly share of average vet spending, and any recurring medication or supplement cost you enter.
Where the numbers come from
Calorie need = 70 × weight(kg)^0.75 (Resting Energy Requirement), × an activity factor (AAHA 2021 Nutrition and Weight Management Guidelines). AAHA does not publish a senior-specific factor, so this uses the same "less active" factor that applies to any less-active adult dog. The default vet-cost line is the 2025 AVMA average annual dog vet spending ($598) divided by 12 — override it if you know your dog's actual vet costs run higher or lower, which is common for a senior dog managing a chronic condition.
